This is my first exposure to Roto Visage and a rather pleasant one it is bringing me through mysterious lush passage ways of the imagination and at times, darker tunnels of the mind. At first with the introduction of “Spiral Ignite Flesh” I was thinking this was going to be more of a strait-up experimental release with sharply cutting and contrasting sounds but over the course of the aforementioned track and the following “Somnambulist Carving” things become much more smoothed out allowing moments of disorienting electronic textures mixed with some more organic elements.
Eventually most of the “experimental” elements are siphoned out and the longer droning passages remain, but not without some flowing changes. There is obvious attention to detail to be found among these sounds, a little less with the composition of them which can be hindered by fast and sometimes times cryptic changes (that even come off as being a little pointless in some instances like the end of “Into Transformation”). It does seem however, that Roto Visage approaches his material with a predestined vision and executes it quite clearly which makes for an engaging listen into the eclectic mind of the artist.
That said there's nothing really new here and the only thing that really draws me in is the work's consistency and vision as a whole. It's a great “sit down” album, it draws you into the unique atmosphere that it presents and takes you on the cynical and sometimes dark journey. It is definitely worth downloading for free, so get it while it's still available.
