Korperschwache is a project I am unfamiliar with although I do feel quite comfortable with their sound which reminds me of a mixture between Skullflower, Sunn 0))) and even Sunroof! Apparently Korperschwache has a few albums already under his belt including a few on the excellent Crucial Blast Records. I'm not sure exactly where “Brotherhood of the Bowl” lies in terms of Korperschwache's discography but it is a solid album consisting of noisy as hell guitar drone structures.

Generally guitar drone doesn't appeal to me at all, and this is not exception, but it's only fair to state that Korperschwache is able to create a solid wall of noise that seemingly incorporates the guitar riffs as just another element rather then the sum of all the parts, however it is clear that there isn't much more to this then just guitars and feedback. The style is that of Sunn 0))) but imagine instead of a low, sub-bass drone to be a low mid-range drone and you know can imagine the general sound presented here.

There are times when the riffage works here, and times where it doesn't. In both “In The Kingdom Of The Blind (Wise Men Carry Sharp Sticks)” and “Fear Of A Black Metal Mustache” - the latter of which is the climax of Brotherhood of the Bowl with it's epic sound – the harmonic and melodic guitar riffs add to the doomed atmosphere and help me revel in the repetitive structures. However, in tracks like “Menace Of The Feminizing Soybean” and “Slavery = Bacon = Freedom” the riffs are annoying, and sound like they're placed for the sole reason of showing off the fact that it's some guitar wankery going on.

In the end this stands as a solid release that even a guitar-drone hater such as I can appreciate. Although I feel there are an equal amount of throwaway, mediocre, and excellent tracks here it's a consistent enough vision and enough attention is paid to the sound to warrant a solid offering. Fans of the aforementioned acts: Sunn 0))), Skullflower, and Sunroof! take notice. If guitar drone is your thing, this will not disappoint.
