Doornen – AIDS Loves You To Death 3″CDR

Scrape Tapes

AIDS Loves You To Death is a quick little blast of the harshest, crunchiest noise that has graced my ears for a while. The disc simply just does not let up. Housed in stolen public service announcement ads the concept here is really doing nothing but reveling in the fact that anyone is susceptible to this sexy death.

With two long tracks totaling twenty minutes the disc is chalk full of harsh cut up destruction. Blaring distortion, washes of harsh noise, moments where the noise lets up you can hear field samples being mangled in the background. Screeching, crunching, and munching junk piles of flying feedback just about every loud offensive sound you can imagine thrown through a billion effects and totally mutilated.

“HIV+” is the second track and this time around things are just a little bit more overblown with distortion bubbling so hard it almost sounds like water. Chugging low-end, crunchy-mids, and screeching highs, there really isn’t anything more to ask of the production here and it’s clear what Doornen is going for compositionally which makes me happy to say: it works! This delivery of harsh cut-ups, blown-out walls and clusters of gritty surges is just what the doctor ordered.

Definitely a great ear cleaner here for those who want to feel the sound more than just hear it. AIDS Loves You To Death is simply relentless in it’s raging aural attack and it’s taunting tone dealing with the misfortune and rapture of AIDS as a disease cannot be ignored. Bow down to the great decider, the great equalizer. AIDS Loves You to Death.
