Lavas Magmas<\/a> – Ten Swords C20<\/p>\n

Here’s another installment in the chronicles of Lavas Magma’s discography and still upping the ante for his style of atmospheric industrial music. This is one of my favorite projects currently in operation and Ten Swords is a testament to that reasoning.<\/p>\n

Side A contains the track Mall of America<\/a> and features bubbling oscillators combined with heavily distorted textures. The overblown bits of sound and crunch that Lavas Magmas attains here is impressive with a kind of saturation that overloads the senses yet doesn’t subtract from the sound. There are always layers fighting for the forefront yet it’s not so crowded as to overwhelm the listening space.<\/p>\n

Side B features Hall of Mirrors<\/i> and uses bowed sheet metal as the sound source. With that you can’t go wrong. Add to it the impressive array of effects Lavas Magmas employs and you have a rusted edge razor simply tearing apart everything in its wake. This sounds like an overblown Niellerade Fallibilisthorstar or a more spacious Hum of the Druid.<\/p>\n

Ten Swords is short, but oh so sweet. The sound and production is immaculate in that dirty lo-fi yet full spectrum kind of way and the artwork is abstract yet simplistic and to-the-point. A great release and recommended for fans of crusty industrial ambience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
