Russia: the wild west of the 21st century. With it’s dashboard cams, street fight videos and military aggression it’s no surprise that it is also a hotbed for industrial music. Gorduw is currently on the front lines right now and the project’s style is as multifaceted as their homeland’s antics. Having listened to several albums I’ve come to know that the project spans the genres of experimental noise, electro-industrial, and power noise. <\/p>\n

XIX CIF 30\/15 tends to the former of the styles with 5 (mostly) long tracks of heavily distorted throbbing industrial. It’s a mammoth of an album, 80 minutes in total with two tracks almost clocking in at 30 minutes each. The two short tracks SpaceSatan Female<\/i> and Sister…<\/i> are experimental cut-ups of vocal samples and make for good transitional pieces. While 2 of the 3 longer tracks here are distorted and delayed chug fests reminding me of the sound of Brighter Death Now.<\/p>\n

Only the last track entitled Spiral + Fractal<\/i> breaks into a stuttered and broken electro beat that is buried under layers of overdrive. This track is less effective than the unrelenting pummeling of the first tracks maybe because of it’s repetitive quality or perhaps because of the lack of low-end.<\/p>\n

By the end of XIX CIF. 30\/15 one tends to find oneself a touch exhausted like they have been through a war; yet the album as a whole is a success. It’s a strange mix of different styles and influences but if you enjoy a certain type of experimental noise that mixes goth and electro elements with old school death industrial styles this may be up your alley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
