Ahlzagailzehguh – Misinterpreted Injury 2×7″

It’s been a while since I’ve heard much from Ahlzagailzehguh and even this release is a few years old at this point, but still available! Apparently Misinterpreted Injury is his first release on the 7’’ format and deals with the trauma associated with the loss of a kidney at the age of 9. Definitely some interesting subject matter here, and with Ahlzagailzehguh being the kind of harsh, junk, cut-up noise I couldn’t wait to see what he was going to be pulled out of his stomach for this one.

Over the course of the multiple sides of each record Ahlzagailzehguh migrates from his regular harsh cut-up style to more of a balls-out wall noise extravaganza. Side A “Yellow Complexion” sees flailing feedback frequencies, pushing blasts of distortion, smashing junk and alternating fuzz blaring out from every possible angle. Side B entitled “Rust Colored Urine” follows suit but again begins to reign in on the dynamics and variation in sonorities just a bit by focusing on a more merely alternating attack of overblown layers.

By the time side C “Urethral Stretch by Catheter” rolls around Ahlzagailzehguh has thrown us into a harsh-noise wall whirlwind. Of course, I don’t have to just imagine the pain that would have been felt during this procedure having endured a rather unpleasant chlamydia test back in high school, when it was done the “fun way”. The cut-up layers take the back seat here for a white-hot blast of noise up front and personal. There are still cut-up layers there but they drown in the back drop. Finally, side D “Protruding Sternum” continues where C left off. Closer to wall noise with some cut-up textures still bleeding through. This is possibly the harshest thing that has ever been pressed to vinyl. Absolutely brutal and unrelenting while still managing to have the depth and spastic qualities Ahlzagailzehguh is known for. But a different sound than I am used to from the artist.

Worth mentioning is the well crafted packaging. Simple graphic design combined with an insert that is an actual x-ray? How the hell did they get these? Colored, very thick vinyl well placed in protective sleeves. This is an extremely pro D.I.Y. release – does that even makes sense? Well fuck all if it doesn’t this is the real harsh stuff, not for the feint of heart.
