DeepKiss720 – DK720 CDR

Unverified

Another one from Unverified which I was really dreading and rightfully so. Although the disc is off to a decent start with some choppy, very noisy experimental electronics a la Jazzkammer. Once the “vocalist” is introduced into the mix during “Removals/Set One” – an epicly annoying 19 minute track – this gets pretty unbearable. The first 10 minutes are ok, not at all my preferred style of noise, but fine for what it is but I really wanted to just turn it off after about the 10 minute mark. The vocals are distorted to all hell and very loud and harsh for so long.

Despite the really terrible title “The Emperor’s New Drone” is by far the best track here. With some depth and leanings toward electroacoustic it has a nice array of sounds. Think pulsating synthesizers, chirping glitches, sirens, slowed-down samples and all other kinds of shiny glistening sounds it’s no wonder it’s only 3 minutes long. The track is definitely too good for this disc.

With “Set Two/Additions” we’re back to the god-awful vocals, and harsh distortions of DK720’s live material. A shit ton of background noise, distorted vocals sounds that sound like some annoying opera singer attempting to make the call of a monkey. It’s pretty bad up in this shit.

Shitty photo-copied artwork, a brand-name CDR with a little sticker on it. Unverified once again throws in the towel for a release with little-to-no time/effort/money/thought put into it. So don’t waste those things on this release.
