Pusdrainer – Instant Death/Total Shit 2xC30

Dead Pope Productions

Here is my first formal introduction to the project of Pusdrainer and what is presented is a nice looking double tape package with simple black/white artwork and spraypainted tapes. Quite the DIY affair but one that obviously has some effort put into it.

The sounds here range from – most notably – harsh noise, to power electronics, a small dose of industrial here and there, and finally a good handful of wall-noise thrown in for good measure. To give you a general vibe of what we’re dealing with here, Pusdrainer utilizes such verbally stunning track titles as: “”Field Amputations”, “Into the Shit”, “Erect and Ready to Die”, and “Mummified in Frozen Piss” so we have kind of a gore-grind meets Cannibal Corpse death metal concepts that are being dealt with in Instant Death/Total Shit.

Sonically, Pusdrainer mixes the different styles he explores quite well, but make no mistake, this is utter, raw, lo-fi noise. I will even go as far as to say this is total neanderthall electronics. Pusdrainer frequently presents a blunt force wall of noise which degrades into a sputtering, dying and minimalist clicks and swashes of quiet noise swells. Just when you thought it was actually the sound of your tape machine dying you flip the tape and a whole barrage of wicked power electronic swells jumps up with the sole purpose of cutting your fucking throat.

Definitely a overall fine release. There are some slow moments in the tapes but it’s mainly due to the style of basic noise that Pusdrainer presents and not due to lack of effort or forethought. For fans of lo-fi caveman electronics only, not for the faint of heart. Please keep away from small children, pregnant woman, and epileptics.
