Brain Lesion – Abomination of Desolation CDR

Heretic Recordings

Yes yes yes yes yes. Abomination of Desolation is such an out-of-nowhere amazing release! This totally took me by surprise as I had never even heard of the artist before. What Brain Lesion delivers is 34 minutes of varied structured/unstructured noise/power electronics that sticks to old school aesthetics while bringing new sounds and feel to the genre.

Every track on this baby is overflowing with pure intensity, noise, and industrial atmospheres. Analog distortion over rhythmic industrial loops, ambient field samples, and somehow Lesion crams in burly tortured vocals into the mix to create the most disgusting pile of pure hatred that has soiled my ears in quite some time. Unrelenting, but precise and mechanical while also free flowing and dynamic this is the perfect mix of electronic and organic.

In sound this reminds me of The Halflings with some tracks that are rhythmic with quick changes while others are given time to evolve and life to breathe. Not to mention the track titles and concepts are ambiguous but not cryptic, dark but not dramatic, sarcastic but not ironic. “White Dog” opens the album with scathing noise and a barrage of aggressive vocals. Immediately following with “Dead Moon” you know this isn’t going to be your typical pe/noise album because of the perfectly pulsating analog synth and grungy aired out groans. However, it wasn’t until “Cerebral Drill” began it’s pummeling into my skull that I knew Abomination of Desolation was going to really be something special. Not only are the first 3 tracks solid gold right out of the gate, but the rest of the album follows suit. With distorted synths and textures right up front, aggressive, loud noisy, and the field samples, sparse industrial elements meandering in the background but providing just enough elements of depth to keep the sounds engaging.

Fucking grade A perfect material from this unknown and underrated artist. If you enjoy acts like The Halflings, Sutcliffe Jugend, Paranoid Time get this shit now. It’s already been out for way too long without getting the praises it deserves. This album just makes me want to say “fuck you” to everyone but Mr. Brain Lesion himself. Fuck you.
