Waterdogs – In Limbo C12
Waterdogs – In Limbo C12
The once defunct project of Brandon Terzakis is now back, this little tape having been released before the project went on hiatus. It’s a short tape, minimal artwork but that is certainly part of the charm. Two tracks one on each side, this couldn’t be simpler.
If I were to judge Waterdogs on this cassette alone I would be more likely to group him in with the death industrial crowd rather than the power electronics homo sapiens. Despite the fact that these two tracks both feature vocals they are pulsating and rhythmic with a heavy dose of atmosphere.
Side A is more of a build-up slowly undulating walls of ambient noise surge until it reaches a great cacophony and finally dies down. Side B is instead more rhythmic with huge bass hits accompanying the screaming airplane engines. Both tracks feature relatively dry vocals that sit in the mix at the perfect spot. Just enough to make out the lyrics if you try, or just bruised enough to let them drown in the industrial noise that surrounds them.
I really dig this release as a whole package. It’s short and the point while still being just a bit abstract and ambiguous. Definitely a mark of quality here that shouldn’t be ignored.
