NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Sensible Nectar is back! Predator Plague haunts the airspace in my room. So many tapes… so little time. I will for a change, start this review off on a positive note. I really dig the packaging on this release. Bright orange graphics and the brightest neonist cassette tape I have ever seen. It’s visually offensive in the best of ways.
As for the sound, I am still baffled how Sensible Nectar manages to record this stuff without ripping out his eyes due to boredom. Endless pedal noise wankery just goes on and on. I couldn’t handle more than 15 minutes of this stuff, maybe it got better after that? I hope so, but I will leave the exploring up to much more patient folk.
Just when I was thinking “damn, this can’t possibly get any worse”. Side B presents Mannequin Hollowcaust. Sensible Nectar has finally found someone that makes him look good. This isn’t much better because on top of the annoying lines of circuit-tweaked go-nowhere feedback and cheap pedal noise is some horrid lo-fi production. It’s sounds like Mannequin Hollowcaust is trying to do a kind of Death Squad “Theological Genocide” thing here but it’s just not happening. If there was any focus to the actual technical aspects of the sound it could work, but this sounds like it is being played out of a portable AM radio.
Yet another release that sadly falls flat on it’s face. This cassette sounds like it might be a collection of source material for a noise artist but it by no way sounds like finished tracks at all. Most tracks are maybe one layer of distorted and mangled feedback. Only recommended for those who enjoy bedroom noise recording jam-outs. As for me, no thanks.
