Bacillus – Anthracis BCCD
Bacillus – Anthracis BCCDR
It’s been a long time since I’ve received a release on a business card! This format is just as awkward as it ever was, yet the packaging is very well put together with folded transparencies, acute text, and it’s all encapsulated in a biohazard bag. Very fitting for the concept of Bacillus’ sound.
I’ve been exposed to quite a few tracks from Bacillus and have enjoyed what I’ve heard. However, it seems Bacillus has really degraded his sound for Anthracis as this material is exceptionally lo-fi, gritty, and awkward. First off, the tracks each average about a minute long, and they are all extravagantly titled with names like Inhalation of Weapons-Grade Spores in De-Staticized Aerosol Agent.
Finally after precariously placing the CDR in my drive and hoping it was aligned correctly, I played the entirety of it’s 5 minute running time a few times over. The sound here is extremely crunchy lo-fi noise, possibly recorded onto a shitty 4 track or something. All harsh, all the time, with random start/stops in High Level of Antiphagocytic Virulence Factor which add an almost improvised feel.
Anthracis is by no means Bacillus’ strongest material. This little gem is out there more for the collectors than for the harsh heads. It’s a must have if you dig tape hiss, crumbling lo-fi distortion, and biohazard concepts.
