Fossils – Waterboarding CDR

Unverified

I stopped asking why a while ago. Probably after about a year of doing reviews, I figured out it’s better just not to ask why, but to outright state why not. Asking why is just an exercise in futility at best, at worst it’s a colossal waste of time energy and frustration.

Waterboarding is a badly packaged CDR that features an even worse recording of even worse improvised sounds. Experimental music without the experimentation. Fuckery without the “FUCK”. The recording on this is barely as loud as the tape hiss, do you like the sound of tape hiss? You do? Cool, check out this CDR it’ll knock your socks off.

It’s not until the 4th track where the real culprit is revealed. This is not only fuckery, at it’s worst. This is GUITAR fuckery. Only thing worse then listening to someone fuck around with a synthesizer or sampler is listening to someone fuck around on a guitar. Shoot me now.

After the 5th track is about where I started just fast fowarding. The sounds of shuffling around, hitting the strings of a guitar, maybe rubbing something on it. Putting a little delay on it here or there. Cars driving by. Background noise, tape hiss. Waterboarding sounds like the mute child I never had who constantly follows me around with a loudspeaker amplifying everything she touches.

If this sounds like it appeals to you, well, go on over to Unverified’s page and pick yourself up (what I hope is) a cheap CDR. Good luck with it. How this can possibly appeal to anyone is beyond me, but my guess is there’s someone out there who likes it and they’re probably more wiling to argue it’s merits then I am to offer points to the contrary.
