Bagman – Men Who Solicit Sex CD
Bagman – Men Who Solicit Sex CD
From the second my hand caressed the black cellophane wrap on this release I knew this would be a power electronics affair. Unfortunately you have to destroy the outer wrapping to get to the CD itself but the design is minimal and tastefully done.
Men Who Solicit Sex is described as “A study in five parts on the topic of unlawful sexual solicitations.” What Bagman presents is roughly 30 minutes of harsh traditional power electronics with plenty of media and news samples surrounding the topic.
The material here is quite well developed and follows succinctly in the orthodox rules of the power electronics genre: harsh, lo-fi, distorted/delayed vocals, and a creepy atmosphere. Probably my favorite track here is Men Who Solicit Sex Pt. II with its plodding synth line much reminding me of the work of Genocide Organ.
There are moments of originality though as in Men Who Solicit Sex Pt. III where stuttered and syncopated rhythms introduce the blast of distorted layers.
Overall a solid release and showing of lo-fi power electronics. Fans of the genre will certainly not be disappointed.
