Tasuketekun – Electrical Lessons CDr
Tasuketekun is a harsh noise artist hailing from Japan and creating noise in a the style of the Japanese greats like Merzbow and Astro. This disc holds roughly 42 minutes of white hot synth-based noise with tons of variation yet using droning synth pads as a base for each track.
Two longer tracks kick things off with Electrical Lessons featuring a low bass tone and cut-up distorted elements above the drone. It is quite consistent for the entirety of the track. Human Weapon is of a similar ilk but instead uses a more mid-toned synth core, yet about halfway through the track there’s a significant change that produces some much more deep sounds with bubbling noise textures which really helps regain my interest in the track.
Light Sleep kicks in with some extra dirty textures and flattens out the sound a bit for a less synth-centric vibe. Soon it falls into more of the formulaic approach that Tasuketekun insists on using on all tracks here with low synth core and meandering noise on top of it. This seems to be the major pitfall for Electrical Lessons is that every track – although they explore some interesting sounds – is so formulaic and therefore predictable. Low drone + synth fuckery in higher register + change up later in the track = every track on here.
Electrical Lessons is a good effort and follows a very traditional harsh Japanoise sound. So traditional that I might even argue this falls prey of being quite generic. Although that’s the case it’s still well executed and shows a decent effort which could perhaps be marked as a solid starting point for this artist’s potential. Certainly one for the harsh heads only.
