Dead Boomers – The Pig In The Python LP
Dead Boomers – The Pig In The Python LP
These dudes are from Australia, they played in Boston a few weeks ago and put on a pretty damn good show. Here is their first LP, I think it may be their softmore release. Dead Boomers are a duo and their sound could be described as what a war between The Cathode Terror Secretion and Wolf Eyes would sound like.
Dead Boomers use stylistic queues from industrial, noise, drone, and power electronics to form an excellent and cohesive sound. Most tracks here have a rhythmic element, usually some kind of distorted industrial pummeling, often mixed with blasts of noise, feedback and some synths. Vocal attacks here are quite prominent, and when playing live one member focuses on vocals while another provides the noisy backdrop.
The tracks here are surprisingly well composed, although they are mostly quite short, with only Leave Followers Now breaching well beyond the 3 minute mark. Speaking of that tracks it’s a nice departure from their brutish efforts with a slow drone core featuring echoing percussion, metallic textures, and subtle vocals. It breaks up the album nicely to provide some much needed pacing and to round out the rest of the more aggressive tracks.
I had never heard of the project before they had contacted me to put on their show in Boston and I have to say this is the whole package. Stand-up dudes, great performance, and excellent releases. For fans of The Cathode Terror Secretion, Wolf Eyes, and they also mentioned they had a power violence influence so that too.
