Interview with Ionophore

Based in two locations, Ionophore is the product of Leila Abdul-Rauf, Jan Hendrich, and Ryan Honaker. Dark electronics, beats, industrial soundscapes – Ionophore weaves in and out of styles on their second full length album entitled Sinter Pools. The album has been stuck in my rotation for a while as I’ve been inclined towards something more pleasant but still rewarding to listen to. As such, Sinter Pools is saturated with electronic manipulations and organic instrumentation that are densely packed into an album that is easily one of …

Teeth Engraved With The Names Of The Dead Interview

Teeth Engraved With The Names Of The Dead has been around for a while. It’s only recently they have gotten some much deserved shine with their masterful full-length on Malignant Records called “Starving the Fires”.

The two are without a doubt some of the hardest working artists in death industrial. Avoiding the typical tropes and sounds, Teeth Engraved continues to evolve sculpting impenetrable walls of noise pummeled by scrap metal “bovine whirlwind” percussion and vicious vocals.
Please introduce yourselves and how long you’ve been operating as Teeth Engraved.

Reviver Interview

Reviver is a hidden gem in the land of New England whose sound can be described as death tone drone; low rumbling feedback and pulsating synth noise with little breathing room. Christopher Donofrio is the soul entity behind this sickened sound and has so far presented a discography of consistent and pummeling sounds while evolving in his own unique way within the confines that he has set for himself. Add to this regular live performances and a taste for the obscure in everything from music to beer and we are …

Josh Lay Interview

Still a bit of an unsung hero in noise and experimental circles Josh Lay is a Kentucky based artist whose work spans the edges of industrial, avant garde, drone, noise, noise rock, and now even black metal. Currently creating noise under his own name, he is also one-half of Swamp Horse and was a member of the now defunct Cadavar in Drag noise rock band. He continues to produce a varied spectra of sounds as well as release records on his D.I.Y. label Husk Records. He has collaborated with such …

Existence Establishment is proud to present some words with our own functioning artist Daniel Burfoot the sole entity behind the German power electronics/industrial unit Human Larvae, and the spastic harsh noise project Broken Diode. Having released full-lengths for both projects on Existence Establishment in the past, we’ve decided it was time to catch up on his more current activities.
How was the project Human Larvae created and what is the over-arching concept of the project?
Human Larvae was launched in 2005 after playing around with different styles of dark electronics. I …

Oscillating Innards Interview

Gordon Wilson Ashworth seems to be one of the most interesting and active musicians to emerge out of the US scene in recent times. Constantly recording, touring, and evolving his music Ashworth may seem all over the map at first glance, but a closer look reveals a logical and detailed progression with a clear artistic vision. The interview below seeks to provide some insight into Ashworth’s past, present, and future work.
Oscillating Innards releases started turning up in 2002. Prior to that, were you active in other musical …

Putrefier Interview

I got a chance to talk at length with Mark Durgan of Putrefier while on tour back in March of ’09. We had quite a long conversation spanning things like Broken Flag, zines, politics in noise, and his label and distrobution “Birthbiter”. Since the conversation went on for quite some time, I’ve edited it down a bit to make it more manageable for listening.
