Kerrstillingskozletskynyströmpetrus – Death Instruktions LP
Malignant Records
Informed by a single vision (in this case, the cover art), Kerrstillingskozletskynyströmpetrus have crafted Death Instruktions with a mangled and dark vision incorporating each of the artists’ styles collaboratively. The result is a pretty compelling if not a somewhat murky and hazy concoction. Admittedly, I am only somewhat familiar with the work of Steel Hook Protheses, Murderous Vision and Megaptera, but it’s not difficult to understand why these artists would want to work together.
The tracks are crafted as distinct songs that shift within …

Halalnihil – Meqbaszni Minden Rákos Embert A Földön CDr
Psychoacoustic Castration
Halalnihil is a project from Hungary. All I know about Hungary is that it is supposed to contain the most depressed population in the world and that the song Gloomy Sunday hails from the country. Halalnihil’s sound isn’t any more lighthearted than that song but it is a hell of a lot more aggressive.
In Meqbaszni Minden Rákos Embert A Földön, Halalnihil skillfully mixes elements of harsh noise and power electronics to offer 4 tracks of varied yet focused and consistent harsh …

Raven Strain – Past Eminence C30
Self Released
Raven Strain is a project of Matthew Billings and has little-to-no web presence which is interesting in this day and age. A few years ago I had the pleasure of hosting the project at a live event in Boston and was given this tape. Worth mentioning is the nice silver silkscreened ink on heavy black matte paper as the j-card.
What is contained within the tape is total lo-fi murk. I believe that the material itself is extremely raw and muddy and is in turn …

Skin Graft – Dystrophy CD
Hanson Records
Skin Graft is the harsh noise industrial project hailing from Cleveland that has taken the noise world by storm over the last few years. Operated by Wyatt Howland, the project often makes live appearances and features frequent collaborations and splits.
With Dystrophy Howland presents 4 tracks clocking in at 30 minutes. Although it’s harsh and noisy this is not quite harsh noise, nor is it quite industrial. Skin Graft finds that fine line in which he straddles both genres perfectly and this allows him to be …

Sky Burial – There I Saw the Grey Wolf Gaping CD
Small Doses/First Light
There I Saw the Grey Wolf Gaping is the next chapter in Michael Page’s Sky Burial project and with it he continues the momentum he has been building to a more classic ambient/new age sound finding influences in such acts as Tangerine Dream, Biosphere, and even Lisa Gerrard.
For the project Page has lined up a motley crew of contributors – even myself included in this one – with artists like Danny Hyde (Coil), Jarboe, Anni Hogan (Marc and …

Torso/GACK/Sandy Saunders – The Human Disease Zine+CDR
Divorce Records
The Human Disease is a collaboration between two artists I am not familiar with (it seems like they just keep popping up) Torso and Gack. Immediately apparent is the care in the concepts with the accompanying “zine” style packaging. A booklet filled with an insert which the CD is mounted on, and several pages of propaganda style art which appears to have little-to-no agenda but exemplifying death, disease, and hopelessness. More or less right up my alley.
