Dan Of Earth – Shed A Soft Mongoloid Tear CDr

Dan Of Earth – Shed A Soft Mongoloid Tear CDr
FTAM
Dan of Earth’s 2010 recording is weirder than ever. Shed A Mongoloid Tear takes on a much more understated feel than what I have heard from Dan so far, and he pulls it off magnificently. Bass-y undertones punctuate altered field recordings and the vibe throughout takes on nearly a dark ambient feel without resorting to the typical, one dimensional wispy tones. But don’t be mistaken, Dan’s work here is still very ghostly and haunting in its own way.
One of my favorite …

Chris Burns – Feedback Tabarnak CDr

Chris Burns – Feedback Tabarnak CDr
Brise-Cul Records
Chris Burns is an artist that has been around for quite a while. Best known for his bout of success in the short lived 80s garage band Terminal Sunglasses, Feedback Tabarnak is his solo effort. Originally self-released on cassette in 2006 and re-mastered and re-released by Grkzgl on Brise-Cul Records, the sounds here consist primarily of lengthy, extensive drone pieces punctuated by avant garde noodling and free improvisation. While the sweeping guitar tones create a thick and heavy presence, Feedback Tabarnak really loses a …

V/A – Tied to An Abuse 2xC50

V/A – Tied to An Abuse 2xC50
Nil By Mouth
Here is a fucking wet dream of an industrial and power electronics compilation which reminds me of the days of old with compilations like The Depth of Beyond that just packed a ton of great artists into a multi-cassette package. With 2 cassettes in this neat package featuring photocopied cut-up style artwork, this is in the true vain of filthy industrial aesthetics. It just blows my mind how many great artists are featured here.
I would go as far as to say that …

Koeff – Liminal Looks 3″ CD

Koeff – Liminal Looks 3″ CD
Unrest Productions
Koeff is the solo project of Johanna Rosenqvist, former member of Swedish P.E. group Institut. Liminal Looks by Koeff is a very short collection of lo fi industrial pieces. The sound here is churning and repetitive, and definitely not in a good way. Nothing new is to be found here and before anything interesting happens, the album is over.
The best track on this album is the first one, and even then it drags on too long. The sound on said track consists of blown …

Reviver Interview

Reviver is a hidden gem in the land of New England whose sound can be described as death tone drone; low rumbling feedback and pulsating synth noise with little breathing room. Christopher Donofrio is the soul entity behind this sickened sound and has so far presented a discography of consistent and pummeling sounds while evolving in his own unique way within the confines that he has set for himself. Add to this regular live performances and a taste for the obscure in everything from music to beer and we are …

Peter J Woods – Fairweather Mask CD

Peter J Woods – Fairweather Mask CD
Autumn Wind Productions
Ok, what is with Autumn Wind Productions? They seem to have dropped off the face of the earth. Too bad because they are a rather prolific and driving force behind the gothier side of noise and industrial. Which of course, makes this Peter J Woods release all the more perplexing. Either way it’s great to see a proper CD release from this excellent Milwaukee-based artist.
Mr. Woods gets right down to business and kicks things off with the epic title track. It’s pulsating …

Dead Boomers – The Pig In The Python LP

Dead Boomers – The Pig In The Python LP
Sabbatical
These dudes are from Australia, they played in Boston a few weeks ago and put on a pretty damn good show. Here is their first LP, I think it may be their softmore release. Dead Boomers are a duo and their sound could be described as what a war between The Cathode Terror Secretion and Wolf Eyes would sound like.
Dead Boomers use stylistic queues from industrial, noise, drone, and power electronics to form an excellent and cohesive sound. Most tracks here have …

Captivity – Addendum 3″CDR

Captivity – Addendum 3″CDR
FTAM
Here’s yet another great release from FTAM, the label run by artist Peter J Woods. This little 3 incher is packed to the brim with post-rock, and guitar based ambience and experimentation. It seems Captivity is a two piece from Milwaukee and they create some great material here.
Exnition is the first piece and leans most toward the post-rock end of things. The material very much reminds me of Tarantel or Acid Mothers Temple. Harmonious droning guitars finally give way to melodies with a steady drum beat backing …

Inappropriate King Live/Scant – Split C50

Inappropriate King Live / Scant – Split C50
Rainbow Bridge Recordings
Inappropriate King Live is yet another project of the ever present Justin Marc Lloyd. The sounds here are weirder than his usual fare and I daresay some of his best work to date. Scant is the HNW project of Matt Boettke of Sex Complex. Together, I would say the combination of artists on this split is a jarring and unusual one, but overall the material is solid.
The Inappropriate King Live side is a dense, swirling work of altered field recordings mashed …

Bacillus – Anthracis BCCD

Bacillus – Anthracis BCCDR
Cipher Productions
It’s been a long time since I’ve received a release on a business card! This format is just as awkward as it ever was, yet the packaging is very well put together with folded transparencies, acute text, and it’s all encapsulated in a biohazard bag. Very fitting for the concept of Bacillus’ sound.
I’ve been exposed to quite a few tracks from Bacillus and have enjoyed what I’ve heard. However, it seems Bacillus has really degraded his sound for Anthracis as this material is exceptionally lo-fi, gritty, …
